An Ode to Retrospect

I BELIEVE. I believe freedom is light to our darkness Shadows no longer linger engrossed in contempt Reeling in the past that was forgotten in disdain  I believe the state of the mind is a powerful force Which shakes the very evil that threatens euphoria, To bind the healing elements to create or restore. I believe love is a decision, a choice Which has been created to serve both counterparts. It is revolutionary,   It redirects hate and paints a world full of possibilities. I believe Contentment is the guiding principle for peace To relinquish futile activities and fully commit to solitude, Soaking in the very essence of life by seeking very little for living I believe sex is sacred It cannot simply be stripped down to an act of worthlessness. It binds two strangers that strive to become one, The ultimate feeling of surrender. I believe in music The very chords that release anxiety, Suppress fear, cure loneliness I believe

The Care-Free Black Girl?

Care free Black girl is a title I assume, has been coined at the height of movements such as #Black Lives matter and AfroPunk, which paved the way for an essential Black women movement known as Black Girl Magic and Black Girls Rock, which is a title ascribed to restore the power, beauty and royalty of Black women all across the globe. Word on the street i.e. social media has determined the essence of the ultimate care free Black girl: Natural haired, free spirited, peculiar dress sense, unbothered, and to a certain extent, “liberated”. I use that last term with careful consideration seeing that we live in an era where “political correctiveness” is seen as a pivotal point in conversation. Being liberated in terms of the self may refer to one’s mindset or attitude (which extends to demeanor) which thrives on self-love and assurance, by stemming away from society’s standards. I recall being labeled as a care free black girl, and to be honest, I did a bit of research t
